# Auto Contribution

Auto Contribution is a vault-level setting that automatically directs a portion of your generated Gencoin to an organization every time one of your vaults cycles. It is enabled by default at 10% per cycle and can be configured individually for each vault.

## How It Works

When a vault cycles and generates Gencoin, the Auto Contribution setting determines whether a portion of that Gencoin is automatically directed to a cause before it reaches your balance. The default is 10% per cycle.

The contribution flows in the following priority order:

1. **Funding Goal**: If you have an active funding goal set on the vault, the contribution flows there first.
2. **Default Organization**: If no funding goal is active, the contribution flows to your chosen default organization.

This means your generosity continues working passively, every time a vault cycles, without requiring you to take any action.

## Why It Defaults to On

The default state is intentional. The protocol assumes you want to give. Rather than asking participants to opt into generosity, Auto Contribution makes giving the baseline and lets you opt out or adjust at the vault level if needed.

This reflects the founding design of the protocol: generosity is not a feature you unlock. It is the operating mode.

## Configuration

Auto Contribution is configurable at the vault level. You can:

* **Turn it off** for a specific vault without affecting others
* **Turn it off** for all vaults at once
* **Adjust the percentage** to give more or less per cycle
* **Set a funding goal** to direct contributions toward a specific target

This flexibility lets you calibrate how the protocol works for you without removing the option to give entirely.

## The Bigger Picture

Auto Contribution and the Seed Redemption 10% work together to embed generosity at two distinct points in the protocol: at value generation (vault cycling) and at value extraction (Seed Redemption). Whether your vaults are cycling or you are redeeming Gencoin to USDC, a portion of that value flows to causes. The protocol is designed so that participating and giving are not separate activities. They happen together.
