# USDC and the Protocol

USDC is the foundation currency of the Generos Protocol. It is the only currency used for on-chain transactions, vault mechanics, and Gencoin backing. This design choice reflects both technical and philosophical principles.

## Why USDC

USDC is a stablecoin issued by Circle and backed by real US dollars held in reserve. For Generos, it offers several critical properties.

**Stability**: USDC maintains a 1:1 peg to the US dollar, eliminating the volatility of traditional cryptocurrencies. When you earn Gencoin, its value is predictable and reliable.

**On-chain and Programmable**: USDC lives on blockchains like Solana, making it instantly transferable, fully auditable, and composable with other protocol mechanics. It is a currency designed for automation and transparency.

**Agent-native**: Agents can hold, transact, and manage USDC without requiring human authorization through traditional payment systems. Your AI assistant can operate your Generos vaults directly because USDC is a native asset in the blockchain environment where agents operate.

**Global and Accessible**: USDC can be sent anywhere on the blockchain without intermediaries, borders, or friction. Generos is not limited by banking infrastructure or regional payment rails.

## How USDC Flows Through the Protocol

When you purchase a Gem, the transaction is immediate and on-chain:

* You provide USDC (or acquire it)
* Approximately 80% of your gem purchase flows directly to the Redemption Treasury as USDC
* The remaining amount covers operational costs and platform sustainability
* That USDC in the Treasury becomes the backing for Gencoin generation

This flow creates a simple, auditable relationship: the more gems purchased, the more USDC in the Treasury, the more Gencoin that can be generated with real backing.

## Gencoin is Backed 1:1 by USDC

Every Gencoin in circulation has a corresponding USDC held in the Redemption Treasury. This is not a promise or a claim. It is an on-chain fact that anyone can verify.

When you redeem Gencoin for USDC, you are converting a token backed by real assets into the asset itself. The transaction is instant and final. No intermediary, no delay, no counter-party risk.

The backing ratio never dilutes. If the Redemption Treasury holds 1 million USDC, exactly 1 million Gencoin can exist.

## USDC: The Only Currency

Generos accepts only USDC for gem purchases and protocol participation. The protocol does not settle gem purchases in fiat, bank transfers, or other tokens. Value moves as USDC on-chain.

That constraint is intentional: USDC is the single liquid asset the protocol reasons about for vaults, treasuries, and redemption. How you *obtain* USDC is flexible: you can buy it on a centralized exchange and send it to your account, or use the in-app fiat-to-crypto ramp (Stripe) so that purchased USDC is deposited directly into your Generos account wallet.

You still benefit from basic familiarity with what USDC is and how sending funds works, which aligns with Generos's design: your agents can handle day-to-day operations, while you stay literate about the asset you are using.

## Why This Matters for Agents

Traditional payment systems require human authorization at each transaction. Credit cards need manual input. Bank transfers need approval. Password authentication interrupts the flow.

USDC removes these friction points. Your agent can hold USDC and transact autonomously. This means:

* **Automatic gifting**: Your agent can purchase gems and send them on a schedule you define, without asking permission for each transaction
* **Autonomous vault management**: Your agent can monitor your vaults, cycle them when full, and redeem Gencoin according to your preferences
* **Direct cause support**: Your agent can allocate generated Gencoin to organizations aligned with your values, without human intervention

This is the New Partnership at work: you define your intent (which causes matter, how much to give), and your agent translates that intent into continuous, autonomous economic action.

## Getting Started with USDC

When you **create a Generos account**, you receive a **Generos account wallet** (an in-app wallet tied to your identity in the product). This is the balance you fund for gem purchases and other USDC flows in the protocol. Generos does **not** use a separate “connect your external wallet” step for this: your account *is* the wallet address you use inside the app, and it can receive USDC from outside.

If you don't yet have USDC in that wallet:

1. **Create your Generos account** (if you haven't already). Your Generos account wallet is created with it.
2. **Add USDC** using either path below:
   * **Buy in-app (recommended):** Use the fiat-to-crypto ramp (Stripe) from within Generos. Pay with a debit or credit card, and USDC is deposited directly into your Generos account wallet. No external wallet needed.
   * **Acquire USDC externally:** Buy USDC on a centralized exchange (such as Coinbase), withdraw it to an external Solana wallet (such as Phantom), then send it from that wallet to your Generos account wallet address shown in the app. This path involves more steps.
3. **Begin:** Use the USDC in your Generos account wallet to purchase gems and participate in the protocol.

If you're new to USDC or withdrawals from an exchange, additional guides in this documentation walk through addresses, networks, and safety. The core idea is simple: fund your Generos account wallet, then act from that balance inside Generos.

Your Generos account wallet is also where USDC returns to you. When you redeem Seed through the Seed Redemption System, the USDC is deposited directly into your Generos account wallet. The same wallet you fund at the start is the one the protocol pays back into. That is the loop completing.

Any USDC in your Generos account wallet can be transferred out at any time to an external wallet or exchange. Your funds are not locked to the protocol.

## The Foundation is Solid

USDC-backing means Gencoin's value is not dependent on hype, market sentiment, or the Generos platform's continued existence. Even if Generos ceased operation tomorrow, every Gencoin holder would retain a claim on the USDC in the Redemption Treasury.

This is how trust is built in a regenerative economic system. Not through promises, but through transparent, on-chain mechanics that anyone can audit.

**The money is real. The backing is verifiable. The system is yours.**
